The American people don't choose the president, electors do. Currently 29 states bind electors to the result of the popular vote -- but 21 states allow electors to vote however they wish.

That means even if a state votes for Biden, its electors could still choose to vote for Trump, or for a third-party candidate, or for no one at all. Because of tradition and common decency, that normally doesn't happen.

But this election? Salon reports that "campaign advisers to Trump, in conjunction with Republican state leaders, are preparing to test this theory. Sources in the Republican Party, at both state and national levels, say that the campaign is considering a plan to 'bypass' the popular vote results and install its own electors in key battleground states where the legislatures are controlled by Republicans."

Translation: Trump could lose the election, but hold on to the presidency. The American people must come together now to demand their voices be heard. We need Republicans to know that when they lose in November it won't be because of fraud -- it'll be because we voted them out.
