New fact sheet countering misleading claims made by Antofagasta’s Twin Metals on economic feasibility

Dear John,

We are only weeks away from the most important election for the Boundary Waters ever, and we hope you have a plan to Vote Boundary Waters. This week we released a new fact sheet countering misleading claims made by Antofagasta’s Twin Metals on the economic feasibility of its proposed sulfide-ore copper mine on the edge of the Boundary Waters.

The Boundary Waters is the lifeblood of Minnesota’s tourism economy, which generates $969 million in revenue per year and sustains more than 17,000 jobs that local families and businesses rely on. Sulfide-ore copper mining on the edge of the Boundary Waters would take jobs away from local communities and provide no long-term economic growth - it would not grow the economy as Twin Metals claims - and in fact, would only make it worse.

Northeastern Minnesota relies on the Boundary Waters Wilderness for its amenities-based economy. A sulfide-ore copper mine on the edge of the Boundary Waters would contaminate the Wilderness and damage this lucrative and sustainable economy.

This upcoming election is a huge opportunity for us to elect Boundary Waters champions who will ensure that the Boundary Waters’ economy remains intact for future generations.
