Hi John,

A few weeks ago, I woke up to a grey sky, feeling tired with a sore throat and congested nose. My head throbbed as headache after headache hit me. No, I didn’t have COVID-19 -- it was the air. In Tacoma, WA, the air was dark with ash from fires blazing across the west coast. I felt scared -- breathing in smoke and ash was impacting my health. How long could it go on like this?

We’re living through climate disaster scenarios scientists predicted decades ago. Climate fires forcing thousands to evacuate. Schools and COVID-19 testing sites closing. Entire towns burning to the ground.

That’s why I’m working to elect Beth Doglio, a Green New Deal champion, to one of the most competitive congressional seats in the country. I need your help if we're going to win.

Last night, Beth and her opponent sparred in a debate and I couldn’t believe what I heard. Beth’s opponent, a fellow Democrat, doubled down on her decision to support a fracked gas plant that was built on tribal land while she was mayor. She thinks fossil gas is a clean energy source and should be used as a “transition” fuel.

It’s unfathomable that someone running for office here in Washington can talk about expanding the fossil fuel economy when we are living through the most destructive fire season in history.

Beth knows that fossil fuels only accelerate the fires harming our community. Before being a state legislator, Beth built a broad coalition, including several tribes, and stopped seven coal export terminals in our state. Seven! Imagine what she’ll be able to accomplish in Congress! Momentum behind Beth is growing and we’re SO close to winning this race, but we need your help.

It's critical that you join me in helping elect Beth Doglio so we can send a representative to Congress who feels the urgency of the climate crisis and will fight for a Green New Deal. Will you stand up for communities across the west coast who are hurting from historic fires and call voters in this key race next Tuesday, Oct 20th?

I’ll see you there.
