Updates from GLAAD

Hi Friend,

I just wanted to make sure you saw Sarah Kate Ellis’ email from this morning celebrating Spirit Day and announcing our match!

In lieu of the annual Spirit Day Concert that I produce, I am working with GLAAD to launch a special fund in support of Spirit Day 2020 and to show my personal support for GLAAD (and to help motivate others) I’ll personally match dollar for dollar the first $250,000 raised against a goal of $500,000 between now and Spirit Day!

Please, Friend, give now if you are able so that GLAAD can continue our efforts on behalf of LGBTQ youth!

With Thanks,

Justin Tranter
GLAAD National Board of Directors Member

Dear Friend,

Happy Spirit Day! The day is finally here when supporters, celebrities, and corporations go purple to stand with GLAAD against bullying! This year's participants include every Major League Baseball team, the NBA and WNBA, the NFL, hosts of CNBC, celebrities like Cher, Halle Berry and Sterling K. Brown, plus brands like Delta, Kellogg, and Target!

Spirit Day 2020 in Action

Imagine what it is like to be a LGBTQ young person watching such a broad swath of folks standing up for you, helping you feel safe, affirming that you have a place in this world and that there’s nothing wrong with you. As a young LGBTQ person, I couldn’t have imagined anything like this, and I don’t think I’m alone.

Friend, today I’m asking you to do two simple things. First, please consider making a gift to support GLAAD’s work on behalf of LGBTQ youth! Today, your gift will be matched by GLAAD Board Member Justin Tranter up to $250,000!!

Join Justin Tranter and thousands of others in supporting GLAAD and Spirit Day.

Second, BE VISIBLE! Please wear purple and update your social profile picture for Spirit Day so that our youth know that you stand with them. Our 2020 Spirit Day frame can be found here.

Despite Spirit Day 2020 looking a bit different than it has in years past, GLAAD’s commitment to creating visibility for LGBTQ young people, especially transgender and nonbinary youth is as strong as ever.  This pandemic remains a cause of tremendous concern, and its repercussions are disproportionately impacting LGBTQ youth. These students are no safer from bullying, and now that in-person schooling is largely derailed, LGBTQ youth are being denied typical social outlets and opportunities to build community and support.

This is why supporting Spirit Day this year is more important than ever. Never has there been a time when our young people needed to hear from us, to be told that there’s nothing wrong with them, to be assured that we continue to support them and that they are not invisible.

Today, your gift will go twice as far in supporting LGBTQ youth. Please don’t let this opportunity pass without giving $25, $50, or even $100.

On behalf of everyone here at GLAAD, and the youth that rely on us to stand up for them, thank you in advance for your support of GLAAD’s Spirit Day.

With Gratitude,

Sarah Kate Ellis
President & CEO
