Earlier this month, citing concerns about election security, Governor Abbott issued an executive order forcing counties in Texas to close all but one ballot drop-off site. This isn’t security, it's voter suppression.

As Harris County Judge, I’m the executive responsible for the health and safety of 4.7 million people covering an area the size of Rhode Island. One ballot drop-off location for this many people is unacceptable. Governor Abbott’s ninth-inning change in the middle of a pandemic is obviously about confusing Texans and suppressing the vote.

Governor Abbott thinks he can get away with this in part because he has a rubber stamp in the state legislature. But we can change that. We only need to net *nine* of 83 Republican-held seats to flip the Texas State House. Arena and Future Now Fund have teamed up to make this happen.

In my role as county executive, I’ve championed a government that serves all people and works to build a more inclusive and resilient community. From preparing our community to handle natural disasters to fixing our broken cash-bail system, I spend every day building a better Harris County.

But, for decades, the Texas legislature has been swept up in racism and right-wing ideology. They have drawn congressional districts that decisively capture the state for the far-right. The fight for the State House is so important because in 2021 we have a once in a decade chance to redraw the maps and ensure fair representation in Congress.

There are people in Austin and Washington, D.C. who are terrified to see the electoral changes taking place in Texas and Harris County. They are doing everything they can to keep people from participating but I know with your support we can fight back and win.
