John,

Wow. It has been a hectic day at the North Carolina General Assembly, to say the least. NC Republicans resorted to lies and trickery in order to override the Governor's veto of their budget, calling a vote during a sparsely attended early-morning session after leading Democrats to believe the vote would not take place until later.

Rep. Deb Butler, a former Lillian's List Featured Candidate, was not about to let this underhanded manuever go unnoticed. Take a moment to listen to her risk being thrown out of the building to call out this "travesty of the process" and stand up for the people of NC in this video: [link removed]

We're so thankful to have women like Deb in our General Assembly to stand up for what is right. In the video, you can also see how Deb's progressive women colleagues, like Mary Belk and Kandie Smith, stand by her side and back her up--even when her microphone is cut off and she is threatened with arrest. We simply must elect more progressive, pro-choice women to the NCGA so that our rights don't depend solely on the Governor's veto, which we now know Republicans will stop at absolutely nothing to override.

Will you support our mission to elect more women like Deb by making a contribution of $25, $50, or more?

With your help, we can create a fairer, more transparent government for our state--one that won't pull dirty tricks like this just to get their way.

Thank you,
Sarah Preston
