In areas where food was already scarce, the pandemic has crippled economies, destroyed livelihoods and made food and health services unaffordable or unavailable – putting more children than ever in danger of being hungry or malnourished. Many children rely on their schools for nutritious meals and basic medical care. So when the pandemic shut down schools, these children lost access to food and medicine their families depend on – in addition to their education.
