John,

Eighteen years ago today, our nation faced perhaps our darkest hour. The attack on our soil on September 11, 2001 was a solemn day in our nation’s history that we must never forget.

I want to take a moment today to honor those who lost their lives in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania that day – and to honor the first responders who risked everything to protect American citizens. These men and women are true American heroes, and my thoughts and prayers are with their families as we mark this tragic anniversary.

We have faced many challenges as a nation in the years since September 11, 2001. It may feel like we are more divided than ever before. But I hope that we will always come together as Americans to make the ideals of this great nation a reality.

Today, let us take time to remember the many lives that were lost eighteen years ago and work to come together as a nation to build a better future.
