We know many school nurses work with students with chronic health conditions, which is especially tough this year with COVID-19.

With CDC funding the past four years, NASN has focused on the school nurse role in removing barriers to improve readiness to learn, classroom participation, and academic performance for students with chronic health conditions – identifying systems and processes that need to be in place in schools and school districts. But what about students with chronic health conditions AND this new infectious disease COVID-19? There is now a shift to focus for these same students as schools reopen to in-person learning in the midst of COVID.

Check out NASN's continuing education program, Chronic Health Condition Considerations During School Re-Opening to help you navigate these new waters. Upon successful completion of this offering, participants will receive 0.75 CNE contact hours.You can also check out Skills-based Approach to Managing Chronic Health Conditions in Schools: Online, and you will receive 4.25 CNE contact hours for completion.

CDC Survey In Improving Our Guidance and Response to Schools Regarding COVID-19
The CDC has had an overwhelming response to this survey and their quota for receiving the $10 incentives has been reached. We still value your perspective and would greatly appreciate your participation. The survey will be open until October 23.
Now Available: School Nurse-Led Surveillance of Chronic Absenteeism Manual
Chronic absenteeism is defined as a student having missed more than 10% of a school year, or more than two days per month, and students who are chronically absent are at risk for academic failure and dropout. The National Association of School Nurse’s School Nurse-Led Active Surveillance of Chronic Absenteeism Manual provides a standardized, evidence-based procedure and resources to support school nurses’ important role in addressing health related absences. Information includes why addressing chronic absenteeism is critical, how to gain school-wide support, and tools for implementing the procedure. 
 
There is no cost to access the manual or its accompanying resources.

American Academy of Pediatrics Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Education Series

Webinar: Continuing Medicaid & CHIP Outreach During COVID-19 to Keep Kids Covered
Thursday, October 29, 2020
2 – 3 p.m. ET

Medicaid and CHIP provide comprehensive health benefits to almost 40 million children up to age 19 nationwide. However, according to preliminary data on the impact of COVID-19, released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the use of these benefits has decreased tremendously during the public health emergency.

The Connecting Kids to Coverage National Campaign will provide a snapshot of CMS’s recent data release, to raise awareness of the decline in services. Your organization can help to drive better health outcomes for families with eligible but uninsured children to ensure that children receive the care they need with Medicaid and CHIP. You’ll also hear about the Campaign’s newest resources.
