Dear John,

Fall is in the air. The days are getting crisp and the nights cooler.  Soon the leaves will begin to change to their vibrant hues, and the sound of crunching leaves will accompany us on our walks. This time of year is a time for reflection and preparation for the new opportunities ahead.

At NVFS, we have continued to push forward with creative ways to deliver services while simultaneously planning for the future. We are committed to delivering robust services to children and families in need, despite restrictions due to the pandemic.

Over the past few months:

  • NVFS has participated in cross-sector planning and discussions, looking at the immediate and long-term impacts of the pandemic on our regional workforce, our economy, and on the health and well-being of our region. While there is no easy path forward for so many families that are struggling, we are preparing today for long-term recovery efforts, forging new partnerships, and centering equity in our work. We are committed to ensuring that NVFS’ services continue to meet the emerging and long-term needs of our community.
  • Our dedicated CARE and Road to Independence Gala Committee volunteers kicked off planning for our upcoming events. Even in these uncertain times, we are committed to bringing our community together.
  • Our corporate partners are as engaged and generous as ever. Russell Cellular, Broadlands-Dulles South Rotary Club, Total Wine & More, Allan Myers, Prince William Chamber of Commerce and over a dozen Chamber members, and so many others have provided invaluable support. Cross-sector partnerships like these, help build our region’s resilience.
  • Our NVFS Team members have continued to be front and center, working to prevent thousands of evictions; providing virtual career navigation and coaching for neighbors who have been laid off; providing educational support for children in our shelter so their parents can go to work and keep their jobs while schools remain virtual and child care centers are closed.

Every day we see heroes responding to this moment, and laying the foundation for a brighter, stronger, more equitable future. Thank you for investing in our work, and for partnering with us to bring hope and a brighter tomorrow to children and families in need. Take care of yourself and those close to you.

With gratitude,

Stephanie
