Dear John,
Eighteen years ago today, our nation faced perhaps its darkest hour. In remembrance of that horrific day, I am taking time today to honor those we lost – and to thank the first responders who risked everything to save the lives of others.
We saw the worst and the best of humanity on September 11th – and we all wondered how this would change us. We will never forget the sense of community we all felt in the days and weeks following the attacks, nor the charity and love for our neighbors that makes America truly exceptional.
Our American spirit knows no race, no gender, no religion, no orientation, no political party. At our core, we are one. I am proud of the part I get to play in working towards a future where all of us are equal – a future where we realize that there is more that brings us together than will ever keep us divided.
Today, let us take time to remember the many lives that were lost eighteen years ago and work to come together as a nation to build a better future.
Thank you,
-- Jahana
