Friend,

For years, gun lobby backed politicians in Harrisburg weren't satisfied with ignoring the public health crisis of gun violence--they went further by blocking solutions from being implemented at the local level. But we won't allow their failure to continue costing Pennsylvanians their lives.

Last week, we opened a new front in our efforts to establish gun safety policies at all levels of government: suing the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for depriving Pennsylvanians of their constitutional right to life and liberty.

We are joined by the City of Philadelphia and survivors who’ve been directly impacted by this policy failure. It was conceived by our former Board Chair, Nancy Gordon, and brought to life by the lawyers at the Public Interest Law Center and the law firm Hogan Lovells.

Our argument is simple: the Firearm Preemption Laws in Pennsylvania resulted in a “state-created danger.” This threat comes from preventing municipalities from enacting their own common-sense local gun laws that have been demonstrated to save lives. It includes blocking evidence-based gun regulations such as gun licensing, safe haven laws, and one-gun-a month.

If we win, local officials will finally be empowered to pass sensible and lawful measures that will prevent gun violence.

Together, we’ll always find a path forward to save lives from gun violence.

Sincerely,

Adam Garber
