Dear John,

National League of Conservation Voters just named Senators Kim Thatcher and Tim Knopp to their “Dirty Dozen in the States” List, which highlights the worst environmental candidates in the nation at the state and local level.

Help us defeat two of 2020’s worst candidates for the environment. Rush a contribution to OLCV PAC today. Your gift of $50 or $100 may be eligible for Oregon’s Political Tax Credit. DONATE: [link removed]

State Senator Kim Thatcher has shown herself to be one of the most extreme, anti-environment legislators in Oregon. From the start, her campaign has had close ties to Oregon’s most extreme anti-climate group, Timber Unity. In fact, she announced her candidacy for Secretary of State at a Timber Unity rally earlier this year, which was held to keep our state from taking action on climate change.

Senator Thatcher has an OLCV Lifetime Score of just 21% and she walked out twice to kill bills that would have moved Oregon forward on climate action. In 2019, the bill for a cap and invest program – HB 2020 – passed the House by a vote of 36-24, and was just one vote away from going to the governor’s desk. Then, Thatcher and her Republican colleagues in the senate fled the state to stop the vote. When a similar bill (SB 1530, 2020) was brought back in 2020, she walked out again. Her history of anti-climate and anti-democratic behavior, including walking out on her job as a lawmaker three times since 2019, make it clear that she is far too extreme to serve as Oregon’s next Secretary of State.

Secretary of State is one of the highest and most powerful elected positions in our state, overseeing elections and holding one of three seats on Oregon’s State Land Board. It is absolutely critical that we defeat Senator Kim Thatcher and elect State Senator Shemia Fagan as Oregon’s next Secretary of State.

This critical race is extremely close. Donate to the OLCV PAC today and help us defeat Senator Kim Thatcher in the race for Secretary of State. DONATE: [link removed]

Republican State Senator Tim Knopp has an OLCV Lifetime Score of just 16%. Even worse, he was the spokesperson for the Senate Republicans when they walked out to kill Oregon’s climate bill in the 2019 Legislative Session.

While Knopp claims to believe in climate change, his record shows the startling truth – that he will do anything possible to stop climate action in Oregon. In addition to going to extreme measures in 2019 to kill climate action and more clean energy jobs, he has also voted against every other climate priority, including Oregon’s Clean Fuels Program/Standard (SB 324, 2015), Ditching Dirty Diesel (HB 2007, 2019), and the Coal Transition and Clean Electricity Plan (SB 1547, 2016), which passed with bipartisan support.

People living in Central Oregon deserve to be represented by someone who shares their values, not someone like Senator Knopp who has shown time and again that he doesn’t believe in protecting Oregon’s people, places, and environment.

Help us flip Senate District 27 from anti-environment to pro-environment! Make an urgent contribution to the OLCV PAC today and we will put it right to work ensuring that we elect Eileen Kiely to replace Senator Knopp, one of the worst environmental candidates in the country.

Oregonians care deeply about the environment, acting on climate change, and protecting our clean air and water for future generations. And on these important Oregon values, we absolutely deserve better than two of the worst. If you agree, please give whatever you can today to help.

Sincerely,

Doug Moore, OLCV Executive Director
