John,

As Rolling Stone magazine succinctly put it, Donald Trump’s “willful ignorance of science is killing us.” Trump “sees science as a servant that should further his political interests, rather than as a tool for saving lives amid the crises of the coronavirus and climate change.”

The Washington Post has reported that more than 1,600 federal scientists left the federal government in the first two years of the Trump administration -- and many of these positions are now being filled by second-rate scientists and supporters of Trump's far-right base. Meanwhile, we’ve seen Trump continue to sideline Dr. Anthony Fauci, our leading infectious disease expert, for contradicting his baseless lies about the coronavirus to protect the American public.

Representative Susan Wild has taken a firm stand against Trump’s anti-science agenda, assuring Americans she will do everything in her power “to ensure that we bring a science-based, fully-funded, government-wide response” to the coronavirus pandemic. And progressive women candidates across the country are following Rep. Wild’s lead, pledging to fight for a cohesive public health response, affordable health care access for everyday Americans, and urgent climate action.

Still, women candidates are consistently dismissed in our political system, and this election cycle has been no exception. We know we need new leadership in November to stop Trump and the GOP’s anti-science lies -- but right now, we don’t have the funds we need to support women candidates as they work to reach the voters they need to win in November.

You, more than anyone, know that we need progressive women in Washington who will return transparency and accountability to our government -- women who will fight to protect American lives, not exploit them for political gain. But if we’re going to radically transform our political system in November and enact policies that will protect American families, then we need you with us. With so much at stake, can we count on you to pitch in anything you can right now to help women candidates succeed in November and bring change to Washington? >> [link removed]

Thank you for standing up for science.

Together, we will create a new status quo for our country and women in politics.
