Friend,

In the 2016 US elections, there was an overwhelming amount of disinformation spread by foreign actors across social media. That hasn’t changed as we head into this election, where disinformation remains one of the most dangerous threats to our democracy

Recent reporting has found that Facebook is giving extremist, right-wing outlets like Breitbart a free pass to spread misinformation about the outbreak of coronavirus. Social media disinformation is a clear threat to our democracy because it purposefully divides voters, and on Facebook, this kind of misleading content has tripled in the last four years.

Facebook, and other social media giants, have made it abundantly clear in meetings with lawmakers [[link removed]] that they’re not interested in stopping the spread of disinformation -- especially since such viral falsehoods are good for their bottom lines. Here are some quick actions to take if you’re ready to fight for our democracy alongside PeopleGreater:

→ Check out Popular Information to find out more about Facebook allowing the spread of harmful misinformation about coronavirus. Then share it on your own Facebook to hold the platform accountable:

Thanks for fighting alongside us.

In solidarity --
