Fight the injustice against Barronelle and support her petition to the U.S. Supreme Court with your gift today

Dear John,

For the past six years, the State of Washington and the ACLU have done everything they could to make an example of Barronelle Stutzman.

They’ve assaulted this grandmother and local florist’s character and her professional reputation. The ACLU continues to threaten Barronelle with financial ruin from crippling attorney’s fees. And they’ve done all of this because she acted consistently with her faith and declined to participate in a longtime customer’s same-sex wedding.

But Barronelle will not give up her freedom without a fight.

The Washington Supreme Court denied Barronelle’s freedom—twice—now the U.S. Supreme Court should weigh in

Today, Alliance Defending Freedom filed a petition with the United States Supreme Court on Barronelle’s behalf. We’re asking the Court to take her case and uphold her freedom to live and work according to her beliefs about marriage without fear of punishment from the government.

John, if you’re keeping count, you know this is the second time that Barronelle has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court.

It’s sad that it’s come to this.

The High Court had previously given the Washington Supreme Court a second chance to protect Barronelle’s freedom in light of the victory for Jack Phillips and Masterpiece Cakeshop. But the Washington Supreme Court declined to make things right.

Instead, the Washington Supreme Court doubled down and denied Barronelle’s freedom once again.

The court got it wrong.

As you know, there is a big difference between Barronelle declining to participate in an event that violates her conscience and someone declining to serve a person because of who they are.

Barronelle has always served everyone who comes through her doors. But now the government is telling her that’s not enough. The State of Washington has demanded that in addition to serving everyone, she must also use her artistic talents to celebrate a ceremony in conflict with her faith.

This is a blatant violation of her First Amendment freedom.

It can cost over $1 million to bring a case to the U.S. Supreme Court. Barronelle could never afford to take this stand for freedom on her own.

But because of God’s provision (John 15:5) and your faithful prayers and support, Barronelle was able to appeal her case to the U.S. Supreme Court a second time.

Will you help fight the injustice against Barronelle and support her appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court with your gift today?

A generous family has come forward and provided a $2 million challenge grant to defend Barronelle and others like her. Today, you can help further the impact for freedom and support Barronelle’s fight at the U.S. Supreme Court.

It never should have come to this

Barronelle knew her friend and longtime customer Rob Ingersoll was in a same-sex relationship. That never mattered to her. Barronelle serves everyone—and she served Rob for nearly 10 years.

But when Rob asked Barronelle to create floral arrangements celebrating his same-sex wedding, Barronelle had to draw the line.

For Barronelle, marriage is a sacred religious event. And wedding arrangements require Barronelle to pour her heart, soul, and time into crafting something special. She meets with the couple, learns about their plans, creates custom arrangements unique for their day, and decorates the venue with her handiwork. Barronelle is very involved in the process.

She can’t participate in a sacred ceremony that violates her faith.

So Barronelle walked Rob to a quiet part of her shop, took his hand in her own, and gently told him why she couldn’t do what he asked. She then referred him to three other florists who she knew would do a good job for him. Rob said that he understood, and they hugged before he left the shop.

Opponents of freedom vilify Barronelle for this simple gesture. They compare her to racists. But Barronelle treated Rob with kindness, dignity, and respect.

To punish Barronelle for that is outrageous, John.

Barronelle has been incredibly patient. She has endured a lot at the hands of the government and the ACLU. But enough is enough.

Make your gift to stand up to government coercion and defend Barronelle.

Barronelle couldn’t take this stand without you

Our nation has a long history of protecting the right of peaceful citizens to disagree about important issues. Yet the government is threatening Barronelle just because she has a different view on marriage than the state.

It’s time to rally around Barronelle and secure a victory for her freedom—and yours. No one should be punished simply for living and working consistently with their faith.

Barronelle is hopeful that the U.S. Supreme Court will set the record straight and protect her freedom. It’s her last stand—her last shot. And she needs you.

Remember there were many who did not think Jack would win—they didn’t believe there was hope. But God is faithful. He used your prayers and financial gifts to deliver a victory for Jack—and He can do the same for Barronelle.

And when you commit to the fight for freedom, God is blessing your efforts, John.

Because of you, ADF is winning nearly 80 percent of our cases, including nine victories at the U.S. Supreme Court since 2011!

John, this is it. Now is the time to take your stand, fight back, and secure freedom for people of faith.

Please give your best gift and take your stand to defend religious freedom today—for Barronelle and for us all.
