Over the next few weeks, Democrats will cast their ballots and vote for a new era of leaders for our country — but defeating Trump alone will not secure the vision for our country that I share with so many.

Only by electing bold, community-oriented leaders and supporting Democrats at every level of government — from school board to district attorney to state legislatures — can we secure this vision together.

That’s why groups like Emerge are so important. The work they do to recruit and train women to run for public office stemmed from the fact that only 22% of state legislators were women — and now, they have nearly 700 alumni of their program serving in public office.
