Hi there,

Stanford’s Mark Duggan is one of the most brilliant and high-achieving people I’ve ever met. As a member of Obama’s Council of Economic Advisors, he personally briefed the President on health care policy. He has written powerfully about the unemployment crisis facing our state. And he has guided hundreds of students towards progressive, evidence-based thinking and policy–including me.

Mark was one of perhaps the most important mentor I’ve ever had. And in the podcast I’m releasing today, you’ll see why. He offers a brilliant defense of progressive policies on health care, policy, and taxation. Even when we disagree, Mark’s arguments always make me think. And they’ll make you think, too.

But the most important lesson Mark taught me–and the reason he’s supporting me in this campaign–is something that we didn’t learn in economics grad school. It’s the importance of being kind.

This is a lesson we can take to heart in Berkeley today, as thousands suffer on our streets, and tens of thousands more face a mounting economic crisis. You’ll learn something about the key challenges facing Berkely in this podcast. But you’ll also learn how all of these challenges can be overcome, if we bring the right values into government.

Best,

Wayne
