Dear friends of PAI & LittleSis,
Together with the Action Center on Race & the Economy (ACRE) and the Partnership for Working Families, we are releasing a report TODAY titled “Fueling the Fire: Why Any Fossil Fuel Industry Bailout Will Be Disastrous for Communities of Color.”
PLEASE JOIN US today, Thursday, October 15th, at 3pm ET for the report’s launch event featuring Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib & environmental justice advocates.
The report looks at the fossil fuel industry’s connection to the high rates of severe illness and death in communities of color due to COVID-19. It traces Wall Streets’ role in financing and profiting from the fossil fuel industry, and the Trump administration’s subsidies and tax cuts that keeps the failing industry in business, solidifying structural inequities and environmental racism. In naming the financial institutions that profit at the expense of communities of color, urging government divestment from the fossil fuel industry, and fighting environmental deregulation, the report outlines clear policy recommendations to hold the fossil fuel industry accountable and save Black and Brown lives.
During today’s launch event, we’ll be in conversation with Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib and environmental justice advocates about how the fossil fuel industry's decades of siting polluting facilities in communities of color have contributed to the disproportionately higher rates of severe illness and death from COVID among Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities, as well as how Wall Street, state, and federal government have financed the survival of an industry that has been poisoning our communities and destroying our planet. Learn about what environmental justice leaders who are on the frontlines are doing to fight back against major oil and gas companies.
At FuelingTheFire.org you will also find a fact sheet on Wall Street’s financing of the fossil fuel industry, a step-by-step guide to finding some of the big bucks behind the top publicly traded fossil fuel corporations, and a series of personal narratives from community groups waging fights against fossil fuel companies in Richmond, CA, Long Beach, CA, and Philadelphia, PA.
Thank you.
