During the summer of 2020 Marina D., a middle school-aged CDF Freedom Schools® scholar, was more excited than ever to have an outlet like her CDF Freedom Schools site, a safe space for her to learn during the pandemic. As the summer came to a close, Marina reflected on the program and wanted others to know that the “[CDF] Freedom Schools [program] is helping people learn about their equal rights, and now, since stuff has been happening, Freedom Schools is even more into it.”

One of Marina’s peers, Cherish P., a high school-aged CDF Freedom Schools scholar, shared that she felt “like [CDF] Freedom Schools is a protest to bring all colors together to help us learn about each person’s background and experiences.”
