In our last newsletter we reminded you all of our upcoming Virtual Black Tie Charity Gala. We would like to take the time to introduce you to each of our speakers today and give you some background information on each person you will hear from during this magical night.

Arisha Ali-Khan

Arisha Al-Khan is the Interim Chief Executive Officer at MLFA. She joined in 2018 as their first ever Chief Development Officer (CDO) and was appointed CEO in 2020 to provide leadership and strategic oversight as MLFA implements its strategic plan to enhance organizational efficiency, infrastructure, and capacity to meet the demands of its mission.

Khalil Meek

Khalil Meek is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of MLFA. After the horrific acts of September 11th, Meek knew something had to be done in relation to the increase in discrimination and hate crimes towards Muslim Americans.
Hatem Bazian

Hatem Bazian is a co-founder and Professor of Islamic Law and Theology at Zaytuna College, the 1st Accredited Muslim Liberal Arts College in the United States. In Spring 2009, Prof. Bazian founded at Berkeley the Islamophobia Research and Documentation Project at the Center for Race and Gender, a research unit dedicated to the systematic study of Othering Islam and Muslims.

Noor Salman

Noor Salman is a MLFA Beneficiary & CLCMA Client that was acquitted in 2018 for any involvement in her husband’s heinous attack in Orlando that left 49 people dead. She was proved to have no part in the premeditation of these plans or awareness of her husband’s actions and will speak on her experience as a beneficiary.

Linda Moreno

Linda Moreno is an internationally recognized attorney speacilizing in the criminal defense of national security and terrorism cases. Moreno represented Noor Salman in her case against a possible life sentence.


Ayman Aishat

Ayman Aishat is the Director of Resource Development at MLFA.


Hassan Shibly

Hassan Shibly, the son of Syrian immigrants, was raised in Buffalo New York. His father, an oral surgeon, and mother, an orthodontist, instilled in Hassan an immigrant's wonder and determination. He is the Executive Director at CAIR-Florida, runs a successful academic publishing company focusing on the traditional Islamic sciences, and is the founder of the Center for American Muslim Understanding.

Khalid Turaani

Khalid Turaani, has a lifelong passion for charitable causes and advocacy. His passion has translated into a 20+ year career in this field. Most recently, he served as CEO at Life for Relief and Development.
Mr. Turaani served as Executive Director of INFORUM, a Brussel based advocacy organization that worked with the EU Parliament on issues of peace, justice and human rights. Mr. Turaani appeared on national and international media, including CNN, Fox News, BBC, Aljazeera and NPR among others, as an expert on US policies and relationships vis-à-vis the Middle East. Mr. Turaani holds a B.S. in the field of Physics.
