This week the Senate Judiciary Committee began hearings for Amy Coney Barrett’s potential confirmation to the Supreme Court.

Two members of the Senate Judiciary Committee have already tested positive for the coronavirus, and a third, Senator Lindsey Graham, has refused testing altogether -- presumably out of fear that another positive test could derail the confirmation process.

There’s no better encapsulation of how dangerous Amy Coney Barrett’s appointment would be for our nation than the circumstances surrounding her confirmation -- the Trump administration knowingly and recklessly defied the CDC’s guidelines to hold a Rose Garden super-spreader event that infected dozens, including several Senators, who then barreled ahead with the hearings despite the obvious risks to their Senate colleagues.

But these hearings are a threat to public health in more ways than one.

If appointed, Justice Amy Coney Barrett would undoubtedly vote to overturn Roe v. Wade and the Affordable Care Act, stripping millions of Americans of their reproductive rights and their healthcare in the middle of a pandemic. And although the hearings have already been set in motion, we still have time to stop the Senate from proceeding any further: Will you sign this petition today demanding the Senate wait until after Inauguration Day to confirm a Supreme Court Justice?
