During yesterday's marathon Supreme Court confirmation hearings, Amy Coney Barrett was asked a pretty softball question about climate change:

"Have you read about that?"

Her response:

"I'm certainly not a scientist...I have read things about climate change. I would not say I have firm views on it."

That answer alone is disqualifying. And here's why: While it's not a requirement that a Supreme Court justice be a scientist, it is a requirement that a justice be able to review evidence to make a decision. The scientific evidence of climate change is beyond reasonable doubt or debate. A nominee without "firm views" on climate science should be firmly viewed as unqualified for the Supreme Court.

The tens of millions of Americans who are already suffering today from the effects of climate-fueled wildfires and hurricanes cannot afford a climate denier on the Supreme Court.
