My name is Theresa Greenfield and as a farm kid, I've always prided myself on being a hard worker and a good planner. But some things you just can't plan for.

My first husband was a union electrician. When he died tragically in an accident at work, I didn't know what to do. I was 24 years old, and I had one young child, and another on the way. While I was picking up the pieces, it was Social Security survivor benefits that helped keep my family out of poverty.

When I was down, I got a hand up.

So when I heard that my Republican opponent Joni Ernst said that she wanted to go "behind closed doors" to gut Social Security, it made my blood boil. My opponent thinks it's okay to secretly go after the hard-earned benefits that millions of Americans rely on. And this comes after she voted for billions in tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy and greedy corporations.

You deserve better than that.

That's why I'm running to be a voice for hardworking people in the Senate. But this is bigger than just one Senate seat: we only need to flip four seats to take back the Senate majority. It's more important than ever before that we take back the Senate majority, and Iowa is a must-win.

This race is neck-and-neck, and poll after poll shows it -- and Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight says this race is a toss up.
