Yesterday, the Supreme Court ruled that Donald Trump can end the 2020 census prematurely.
So public outcry may be our best hope for compelling the Trump administration to count every person in America, as the census is supposed to do.
- An accurate census is essential in determining how seats are divvied up in Congress as well as in state and local governments.
- So why does the Trump administration want to end the census count now, even though the coronavirus has made it more difficult than usual to complete the process?
- Because shutting it down means that people the Census Bureau needs more time to count — people of color, immigrants, poor people, younger Americans, and residents of big cities — will be undercounted.
- And it just so happens that those groups tend to vote Democrat more than they vote Republican.
Add your name if you agree:
The 2020 census should be carried out completely and accurately, NOT ended prematurely to achieve an unfair partisan advantage for the next 10 years.
Thanks for taking action.
Stay safe.
