Many of us can remember exactly what we were doing at the time of the attacks. Senseless acts of terrorism changed the lives of so many, and as we often do in times of tragedy, our country emerged stronger and more united out of the pain. Men and women volunteered to risk their lives in defense of our great nation and patriots at home came to the help of a mourning New York City. This kind of response is what makes our country so great.
But there was a long-term toll as well, especially for the families who lost loved ones in the attack and the first responders who have suffered serious long-term health effects as a result of their heroism. We must never forget these long-term impacts, so please join me today in remembering those who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001, the families they left behind and the first responders who ran toward the danger.
We are blessed to live in the best country in the world!
