First day of new restrictions are you doing your bit to save lives and livelihoods?
**A message from City Council Deputy Leader, Cllr Sally Longford:**
sally longford
Today is the first day of new High level restrictions coming into force across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. We need everyone to follow them to bring the virus under control and avoid going into stricter restrictions. Everyone must strictly observe the basic guidance of handwashing, wearing a face covering and maintain social distancing.
On top of that, the new restrictions mean:
* You must not meet with anybody outside your household or support bubble in any indoor setting, whether at home or in a public place
* You must also not meet in a group of more than six outside, including in a garden or other space
* You should aim to reduce the number of journeys you are making, if necessary walking or cycling or avoiding busy times and routes on public transport where possible.
We have produced translations of the key rules in many of the languages spoken in Nottingham, _here [ [link removed] ]_. We have also produced the following video to remind people to do their bit to save lives and livelihoods

*Gloomy jobless figures underline need for business support from Government*
Nottingham Skyline
Latest unemployment figures are very gloomy and worrying, with unemployment increasing by 81% in Nottingham City and by 94% in Greater Nottingham since September 2019. Most of the increase happened between March and May 2020 and there is obviously a concern there could be a further rise as new restrictions impact on various businesses especially in the hospitality and leisure sectors. Thats why we will continue to press the Government for a proper package of support [ [link removed] ] to help businesses to survive that are already struggling.

*Coping with further restrictions *
Every mind matters logo
The rise of Covid-19 cases in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire is understandably concerning for many people. Weve been here before, but this time round, were painfully aware of how difficult it is to be cut off from friends, family and normality for a sustained period of time. News of a second wave may produce fear or anxiety and will be particularly difficult for those with pre-existing mental health issues. For even the most resilient, it is enough to make us downcast, fed up or frustrated. There is plenty of help, advice, tips and support on how to cope with these issues at [link removed] [ [link removed] ]

*City Hospital top for nursing excellence in the country!*
Journey to magnet excellence logo
I am delighted to hear that Nottingham City Hospital has achieved the globally-recognised Magnet Recognition Program. This is the most prestigious distinction a healthcare organisation can receive for nursing excellence and quality patient outcomes and means that City Hospital is the only hospital in the UK to have gained the accreditation. A fantastic achievement at any time and especially reassuring now when our doctors and nurses are at the forefront of the fight against Covid. As a previous patient at this hospital, I can testify their care and professionalism is second to none.
