Hello there,
NPR: “From Vietnamese nail salons to Cambodian donut shops, Asian-owned businesses have struggled. And Asian American workers have gone from having the lowest unemployment rate in the country to one of the highest.”
Pre-pandemic, Asian American unemployment was 2.8%. But within months, the unemployment rate soared to 15% at its peak, and recent data show the number is still almost 11%.
We saw the signs that Asian Americans were in trouble even before quarantines were implemented: across the country, Chinese businesses suffered an earlier and deeper drop in patronage compared to all others. And still, seven months later, Trump and the GOP continue pointedly calling COVID-19 the “China Virus” and “Kung flu.”
Trump’s racism has hurt our economy. But somehow, the president still leads Joe Biden in supporter enthusiasm. We’d like to cut into that edge now, just like Trump cut into the livelihoods of so many Americans of color. If you’d like to help, tell us now:
Is Donald Trump a racist?
