Three days into sham hearings, one thing is clear: Republicans will do everything they can to seat Amy Coney Barrett on the Supreme Court. To protect the healthcare of all Americans, reproductive freedom, and LGBTQ+ rights, our Members of Congress must do everything in their power to stop the nomination.

We must do our best to stop this nomination. Even if we don’t succeed, our fight is important in another way: we will make very clear that we will not allow right-wing extremists in our government to harm people without consequence. Here’s what you should do.

* Call your Senators ([link removed][UNIQID]) and tell them: Defend Ginsburg’s Supreme Court seat! By withholding quorum, our Senators can slow down the nomination process at least until after the election.

* Call your Representatives ([link removed][UNIQID]) and tell them: Defend Ginsburg’s Supreme Court seat! Our Representatives, especially Speaker Pelosi, can also help slow and stop the nomination process by passing legislation that requires immediate Senate action ahead of other business, like amendments to Senate bills, articles of impeachment, and more.

* Join our contingent at the San Francisco Women’s March for Our Rights ([link removed][UNIQID]) on Saturday, October 17, at 11 AM. Hosted by Women’s March, League of Women Voters, NARAL, and others, this event will show our Members of Congress that we’re serious about protecting our rights and those of our neighbors.
The ISF contingent will meet at the steps of the Asian Art Museum ([link removed][UNIQID]) at 10:45 AM. Bring a sign if you have one—and be sure to wear a mask!

Letter-writers: It’s almost time for the Big Send!

If you wrote letters to voters with VoteForward ([link removed][UNIQID]) , Saturday is the day of the Big Send! Vote Forward is asking 2020 GOTV letter-writers to send their letters on Saturday, October 17th. They did the math ([link removed][UNIQID]) and this Saturday is the optimal time to send your letters, so don’t delay. Make sure they’re marked with first-class postage.

Don’t have postage or envelopes? If you live in San Francisco, we can pick up your letters and mail them for you. E-mail [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) with the subject line “VoteForward Letter Pickup” and we’ll be in touch.

If you wrote postcards with Postcards to Swing States ([link removed][UNIQID]) (Postcards 2 Wisconsin, Postcards 2 Michigan, etc), your mail date is coming up soon as well. Please follow instructions on their website. You can use 35¢ postcard stamps for postcards. (Letter stamps will also work—you just need 35¢ or more of First-Class postage, and a letter stamp is 55¢.)

Don’t delay—vote TODAY!

The time has come—the 2020 Election is NOW. If you’re registered to vote, you will soon receive your ballot by mail, if it hasn’t already arrived. Considering the urgency, now is the time to follow the plan you made ([link removed][UNIQID]) to vote as early as possible. Be an #OctoberVoter and get your ballot in well before November.

Tracking your ballot, before you get it and after you cast it: California is providing online, email, text, and phone hotline resources to voters to check the status of their ballot this year. San Francisco voters can track their ballot on the Voter Portal at [link removed][UNIQID] voters throughout the state can sign up for ballot tracking notifications at [link removed][UNIQID].

Haven’t gotten anything in the mail about this election? Check your voter registration status right now. Yes, even California purges its voter rolls, so if you haven’t voted in a few elections, you may have been removed. If you’ve moved or changed your name, your registration may be out of date. It never hurts to check and it only takes a minute.
* If you’re registered in San Francisco, use the City’s Voter Portal ([link removed][UNIQID]) .
* Elsewhere in California, use the state’s Voter Status page ([link removed][UNIQID]) .

Not registered to vote? Get on that ASAP! You’ll need to register by Monday, October 19, to receive a ballot in the mail. Register to vote ([link removed][UNIQID]) TODAY. We recommend you do so as early as possible—this year, we can’t afford to leave anything until the last minute. You can register to vote quickly and easily at [link removed]—do it now!

If you miss the deadline, don’t fret—ask about Conditional Voter Registration ([link removed][UNIQID]) at your polling place or at the Voting Center ([link removed][UNIQID]) .

Looking for guidance? The presidential race isn’t the only thing to vote on. There are California propositions ([link removed][UNIQID]) and City ballot measures ([link removed][UNIQID]) , and we have our ballot guides plus other resources on our vote page ([link removed][UNIQID]) . This page also links to all of the information described above—it’s your one-stop shop for all the information you’ll need to make your voice heard in this election.

Make a plan NOW to vote.

You can mail in your ballot using our beloved Postal Service—the earlier the better. Every county will also have places where you can drop it off early; in San Francisco, that will be the Voting Center ([link removed][UNIQID]) in front of Bill Graham Auditorium, near City Hall. If you leave it until Election Day, you can drop off your ballot at your local polling place.

Learn everything you need to know to vote in 2020. ([link removed][UNIQID])

Protect the vote. Our democracy is at a critical turning point right now, and we need to stay informed, stay alert, and stay active. If you want to do more to protect democracy than cast your own vote, you can help get out the vote, serve as a poll worker, monitor the count, and counter disinformation. You can read more about all of these options on our blog ([link removed][UNIQID]) .
