On March 20, 2020, the U.S. government announced that it would be partially sealing off the U.S./Mexico border in an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. As a result, thousands of asylum seekers have been denied entry into the U.S., unable to access protection; thousands more already waiting in Mexico under the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) have had their day in court indefinitely postponed.
