Hello friends,
As we get ready to begin our signature collecting period tomorrow, I want to touch base, but before I give you an update, please let us know if you would like to help. We need financial donations to pay for the fuel and fliers. If you have been considering a contribution, now would be an excellent time. We can use all the help we can get during the next 6 weeks. Let us know if you can table or knock on doors to collect signatures, or bring a petition to your office. Every little bit helps.

I have continued to bring my message about how wasteful military spending is affecting programs that help people like veteran's programs, social security, Medicare for all and homeless programs. Since my last update I have delivered that message to the city councils of Pinole (pictured) and Vallejo.
I attended a meeting, in Vallejo, about the Mare Island Shoreline Nature Preserve. The community came out to rally around Myrna Hayes, one of the volunteers who maintains the Preserve, and has poured her heart into it for years. But the city manager's office seems hell bent on removing her and the volunteers in favor of privatization. We cannot allow this to happen. Not only are Myrna and her volunteers dedicated and emotionally involved with the Preserve, but privatizing a public commons is unacceptable.

I've tabled for the Bernie Sanders campaign a couple of times. I met this fellow at Santa Rosa Junior College. His name is Lucas, and a friend of his was shot in the back at the now infamous mass shooting in Las Vegas. She lives, but is unsure whether she will ever walk again. Inequality and corporatization have become so extreme that darned near everything is about money, even education. Our system has had all of the empathy, all of the love drained out. People like Lucas and his friend are counting on us to end corporate rule and transform this country. And I intend to deliver.
I went to a police violence town hall in Vallejo, featuring a panel that included the interim police chief, State Senator Bill Dodd, Assemblyperson Tim Grayson and Congressperson Mike Thompson. The panel was mostly really bad at giving direct answers to the questions asked of them. My opponent didn't actually answer many questions at all.
A few days later, I attended a meeting of Vallejo For Racial Justice, which is made up of citizens affected by police violence, and we had a much better discussion. These people haven't just lost loved ones to police violence, they have been literally terrorized by police for speaking out. The DA is not prosecuting rogue cops, the Mayor has made a couple of announcements about asking for the Department of Justice to investigate, but the leaked letters belie his statements. Nobody is helping the citizens of Vallejo, so this group has taken the initiative of helping the citizens. I'm proud to be associated with these people. They're an amazing group.

I was proud to walk the picket line with Stationary Engineers, local 39 today, outside of Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa. They are striking for better wages and working conditions and the Queen is being stubborn about negotiations despite the National Labor Relations Board siding with workers. Queen of the Valley Hospital should be paying their employees a fair wage.
As you can see, I've been a little busy, and it's about to get even busier when the signature period begins. In addition to collecting signatures, next week I will be in Saint Helena, Crockett, two meetings in American Canyon and another meeting about the Mare Island Shoreline Nature Preserve. So I'm asking again, if you can help collect signatures or help out by donating a few dollars to our cause, every little bit goes a long way. I have every expectation that we will be successful, but we've gotta get on the ballot first. So if you can help, please do.
Thank you,
Jason
