Dear John,

This is my last communication to you before Election Day. Over the past few months you’ve been bombarded with mail, policy soundbites, social media posts, radio and TV adverts, people waving signs down Onewa Road, and now it’s over to you – the public of New Zealand.

Having lived in many different countries across the world, I never forget how privileged we are to have such a thriving representative democracy in New Zealand. It has been great to be a part of this system over the past 2 years, and I certainly hope to continue this effort into the future – representing the hopes, aspirations and sometimes frustrations of our diverse community to local government and to our Parliament.

So please if you haven’t voted then do so. Polling booths are open NOW and close at 7pm this Saturday. To find your nearest polling location, go to: www.vote.nz <[link removed]>.

A few people have asked me which way I’ll be voting on the two referenda at this year’s election. I voted no for both the End of Life Choice Act and the draft Cannabis Legalisation and Control Bill. Ultimately you will come to your own conclusions on these topics but be assured that the outcome on these votes will be respected.

The End of Life Choice Act is a binding referendum that will come into force 12 months after the election should it pass.

The Cannabis Legalisation and Control Bill is non-binding; however, should it pass both National and Labour will introduce the legislation to parliament. If elected, National will reserve the right to tighten up the proposed law through normal parliamentary process, whereas Labour will pass the draft law as proposed.

Whatever view you have, now is your time to let us know what you think of these important topics.

Why vote for Dan

It has been great to connect with many of you throughout the campaign on the challenges and opportunities facing our community and country and how we should best tackle them. If you are yet to vote, here’s three simple reasons why you should continue to support me as your local MP:

- I’m your local champion,

- I’m experienced,

- I support and deliver for our community.

Why vote for National

I joined National 10 years ago because I want a future for New Zealand that is filled with decent job opportunities, where our kids are well educated and where our environment and way of life is preserved for generations to come. I passionately believe that New Zealand can come through and prosper in a post Covid-19 world if we have the right economic and border protection policies, the right team and the right vision from our government. I believe National has this and we need your party vote to get this underway.

It has been an absolute privilege to serve the Northcote electorate community and I hope to have the honour of continuing in this work and being your local champion. I’d appreciate your support.

See you in our community soon!

Dan Bidois
