Friend,

I'm Dana Nessel, the Attorney General of Michigan, and we need to talk about the rise of white supremacists and extremist militia groups that threaten public safety, civil discourse, and the very fabric of our democracy.

Just last week, my office thwarted an attempt by unauthorized militia groups to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, overthrow our government, and foment a civil war.

This planned attack didn't just put Michigan's first family at risk, it makes it abundantly clear that white supremacists and so-called militia groups aren't just internet trolls, they are a threat to public safety.

These groups thrive on hate, division, and chaos. In these tumultuous times, we need public leaders who will condemn white supremacy, extremist so-called militia groups, and these hateful ideologies, or we will continue to see these groups grow more powerful.

When President Trump calls white supremacist groups "very good people," and Republicans continually praise people who traffic hateful rhetoric, they are not just dog whistles. They are rallying cries to white supremacists and hate groups that actively work to cause more chaos and unrest in our country.

As my state's top law enforcement official, I'm ready to hold anyone who threatens public safety, commits hate crimes, or interferes with voters who want to participate in our democracy accountable. And I know that other Democratic AGs will do the same.

But to help protect our democracy and keep our communities safe, Democratic AGs need your help. Will you make a donation to help us keep fighting for our families, our communities, and our country?

In the midst of a global pandemic where people must be able to vote safely and securely, it's crucial to have Democratic AGs who are fighting for justice, law, and order.

Thank you for standing with Dem AGs, and I'm excited to hear about your continued support.

Dana Nessel
Attorney General, Michigan
