John, this is a longer email, but it's an incredibly important one. I want to share a few feelings I have on where we're at in my re-election campaign.
In 2018, we fought hard to win my district, flipping a seat that Republicans held for decades. And every day since, I've been proud to use my position in Congress to fight on behalf of working families and ask powerful figures tough questions during hearings—no matter if they're the CDC Director, the Postmaster General, the HUD Secretary, or a wealthy pharmaceutical executive.
I'm honored to be able to stand up for the American people during those hearings and show what it looks like to fight. After videos of those moments ignite on social media, I receive so many kind messages from people all across the country.
But, John, here's the hard truth: we know that excitement online does not directly translate to votes.
And the reality is that I have an opponent trying to flip my seat back this year. Since I'm from one of the most Republican districts held by a Democrat in the country, it is absolutely essential that we do not leave anything in this race up to chance.
Just like any race, winning is going to come down to who can earn the most votes. Our amazing team of organizers and volunteers are working their hearts out right now to contact Orange County voters (and register new ones, too!) to make sure they have a plan to vote, but this work requires a lot of resources, John.
And because we're not able to knock on doors, hold in-person town halls, or host community events this year, we need to divert more funds and work harder than ever before to reach voters via mail, on the phone, over the airwaves, and online.
