TAKE ACTION Newsrooms — Don’t Call the Election Too Early Hi Global Citizen,
Due to concerns around COVID-19, an unprecedented 72 million Americans are expected to vote by mail this election, and many states don’t start counting those ballots until Election Day. This makes it unlikely that we can expect a valid election result on November 3.
We’re urging America’s news outlets to hold off on declaring a winner until they’re certain of the result. If they get it wrong, it could cast doubt on the election and spark confusion and uncertainty among an already divided public.
Global Citizens’ voices now could be the difference. Send a letter to the leaders of the most influential newsrooms, and ask them to only declare a winner once the outcome is clear.
With hope, Filmona and the Global Citizen team
