As of October 1, 2020, my legislation to create Paid Parental Leave for 2.1M federal workers finally went into effect!

As you know, I’ve been fighting for paid family leave my entire career, and last year we were finally able to pass 12 weeks of paid leave for the birth, adoption or fostering of a child for 2.1 million federal workers.

When I was pregnant with my first child and asked about a paid leave policy, the answer was simple: “You just leave!” Well, I didn’t want to leave - and I knew I had to do something to ensure other parents didn’t go through the same thing.

My paid leave legislation officially went active for all federal employees as of October 1, and it covers 12 weeks’ paid leave for:

-the birth of an employee’s child
-the placement of a child with the employee for adoption or foster care

I'm so proud of the progress we've made when it comes to paid leave protections, and I will keep doing everything I can to expand these benefits so that Americans can care for themselves and their families. And I look forward to continuing delivering these types of accomplishments for the American people.
