John,
Yesterday, the Republican-controlled Senate began the Supreme Court nomination process, ignoring Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s last wish to wait until after the inauguration.
The American people’s voice should be heard. In 21 days, Americans will head to the polls to elect their representatives. It is those leaders who must carry out the will of the people. Senate Republicans’ decision to move forward anyway is a ruthless power grab that will leave a lasting impact for generations to come.
Amy Coney Barrett’s ideals fall in line with the GOP’s far-right agenda. She is just as dangerous as Brett Kavanaugh and will no doubt be Trump’s personal right-hand woman on the court.
Our basic human and civil rights are on the line. Roe V. Wade, healthcare access, LGBTQ+ rights, women’s rights, and any hope of equal protections under the law could all come to an end.
It’s clear Republicans stand for power only and are willing to throw the American people under the bus to keep it. It’s despicable.
Today I’m asking you to join me in demanding the Senate NOT vote on any Supreme Court nominee until the next President and Senate are sworn in.
In solidarity,
Barbara Lee
