Friend,

We’re outraged.

Yesterday, Senators Graham and McConnell began the rushed Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Judge Coney Barrett.

They launched this despicable procedure when people have already begun voting in the upcoming presidential election. Meanwhile, millions of people across the nation are struggling to make ends meet and multiple COVID stimulus bills remain untouched on Mitch McConnell’s desk.

It’s clear that Republican leadership in the Senate cares more about packing the court with justices who would undermine our civil rights than taking care of the people they allegedly represent or abiding by standards they themselves set in 2016.

Demand the Senate not confirm Judge Coney Barrett — or any Supreme Court nominee — until after Inauguration Day.

The courts are one avenue we use in our fight to protect your rights to connect and communicate. And the Supreme Court regularly decides cases that impact freedom of speech, freedom of the press, the right to assemble without unwarranted surveillance and what agencies like the FCC can do on broadband, Net Neutrality, media diversity and so much more.

Put simply: Yet another ultra-right-wing justice on the highest court in the land puts so much of what we fight for every day at risk. That’s why we’ve joined hundreds of other organizations in demanding that the Senate refrain from rushing through Trump’s nominee while people across the country have already started voting.

It’s going to take all of us to stop noted hypocrite Mitch McConnell from ignoring the standard he himself set when President Obama nominated Judge Merrick Garland in March 2016.

Tell the Senate to wait until after Inauguration Day to confirm a new Supreme Court justice.

P.S. As has always been the case, our voices are more powerful together. Join us in demanding that Justice Ginsburg’s seat remain open until after Inauguration Day.
