Dear John,
Amnesty International supporters like you keep the flame of truth and justice burning bright in the world. You’re part of a global collective who believe humanity is worth fighting for and that a better world is possible.
If you’re able to, John, will you take your commitment to humanity a step further?
These are unprecedented times for human rights. We urgently need 150 new monthly donors before November to help us continue our pursuit of justice and equal human rights for all. Please join us today and we’ll send you a limited-edition Amnesty face mask to share our thanks for your essential support. It’ll also show others that you care about human rights for everyone in our world.
Please don’t delay: we need your dedication to building a world with justice and freedom now more than ever.
Speaking out against abuses, fighting for women’s rights, advocating for people of all gender identities, defending vulnerable and marginalized communities, and helping bring more justice to the world requires a substantial amount of funding. To be able to carry out all the work we do in Canada, and the work we fund all over the world, we need to raise just over $14 million this year.
To give us full independence, Amnesty International Canada doesn’t accept funds from governments or political parties. Our support comes from people like you. This ensures our ability to stand firm and unwavering in our defence of universal human rights. It means we can speak up when others can’t or won’t.
With your support, our experts conduct intensive research into human rights violations by governments and others worldwide, cross-checking every reference, every story and every source to uncover the truth. With advocacy and lobbying, we use our analysis to push governments, companies and decision-makers to respect human rights and human dignity. And through petitions, letters and protests, our activists demand action from the people and institutions who can make change happen.
That change, made possible by people like you, happens all over the world every single day. Like the May 2019 release of journalists Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo in Myanmar, arrested in 2017 after investigating the massacre of Rohingya men and boys by Myanmar’s security forces. Amnesty supporters like you fought for their freedom.
“I want to thank everyone around the world who called for our release,” says Wa Lone.
Then there’s journalist Mamane Kaka Touda in Niger, released in March with your help after being charged for posting on social media about a suspected case of COVID-19 in a local hospital.
“I want to thank and encourage those who were mobilized for my release,” the journalist told Amnesty supporters.
John, when you become a monthly donor, you will help free more people like Mamane Kaka Touda, Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo. Your regular contributions will help Amnesty respond quickly to save lives and speak out when an urgent human rights crisis arises. And your steady ongoing support will help keep administrative costs low so we can focus our efforts on what matters: safeguarding human rights and upholding our shared humanity. Please join our dedicated group of monthly donors today.
Sincerely,
Rosemary Oliver

PS: We’re halfway through the month and still need 150 donors to get to our goal by November. Please help by joining us today.
