Hi there,

USPS is refusing to allow members of Congress to inspect their facilities, saying it's too close to the election to allow politicians inside -- and claiming that letting our lawmakers review mail operations could cause a violation of the Hatch Act.

I'm no lawyer, but that sounds pretty phony to me. Now Democrats are put in the unenviable position of having to take Louis DeJoy at his word when he says he's reversing his destructive changes to the agency.

Wouldn't it be great if we didn't have to trust Trump and his cronies with our government and its administration? Soon we may not have to. Joe Biden is getting some great polling numbers, as are Democratic congressional candidates -- but as polling giant FiveThirtyEight reminds us, "momentum doesn't exist in general elections. This could be the beginning of Biden running away with the election... or it could be a temporary, post-debate sugar high."

I remember that sugar high from 2016. The crash afterwards wasn't something I ever want to repeat. So let's prepare for the best but assume the worst. Let's assume Republicans are going to mount a late stage comeback, just like they've shown they're more than capable of doing time and time again. Let's assume they're going to further run our agencies into the ground, turning the very mechanisms of our democracy against us and into their own personal re-election vehicles.

Let's fight them till the very last. Right now, that's not what we're doing: we're petering out because it's been a long campaign and folks are tired. I get it. I'm tired too. But we're currently $6,117 short of our fundraising goal -- and that's just not acceptable for being 21 days away from an election of historic proportions. I know for a fact that the GOP fundraising machine is fighting like they're down, because they are. That's exactly what we need to be doing.

You helped us spread the word about USPS when news of this crisis first broke. You help us advocate for the Delivering for America Act; you helped us bring public scrutiny to DeJoy and his crimes. You've helped us put a spotlight on this whole crooked administration. But now we need your help ushering them off the stage for good.

Please, give what you can now so we can make Trump, DeJoy, and the rest of the MAGA crowd history. Help us save USPS, save this election, and save this country. Help us guard against a last-minute crash and burn like the kind we saw last election. Your country will be incredibly thankful.

I'll be incredibly thankful, too. I couldn't be prouder of the example you're setting. If we make civic engagement the norm, not the exception, this country's future is going to be a lot brighter. But it starts with us -- and it starts now.

Proud to be fighting with you,

Pete Aguilar
