Team —
Amidst Trump’s false claims about Hurricane Dorian’s path, and his
subsequent attempts to prove that he was correct, it looks like —
according to the New York Times — Secretary of Commerce
Wilbur Ross threatened to fire experts to stop folks from discrediting
Trump’s erroneous statement.
After Trump tweeted out falsely that Dorian was headed towards
Alabama, the National Weather Service office in Birmingham sent a
tweet correcting the record and contradicting the president. According
to the reporting, this led Secretary Ross to threaten to
fire scientists in charge of providing Americans, our government, and
first responders with accurate forecasts of natural
disasters.
This politicization of science, fact, and truth has got to stop. We
can not have the president and his henchmen interfering with the work
of subject matter experts, especially when people’s lives
are on the line.
These childish games have real-world consequences, they impact how
states and localities prepare for disasters, and impact the faith
Americans have in their government.
This is just another example of what is at stake in 2020, and
another reason why we need our movement to succeed in next year’s
election. But if we want to make President Trump a one-term president,
we’re going to need your help.
Can you chip in $20.20 right now to show
President Trump and Secretary Ross that you’re sick and tired of them
playing political games with the truth?
