Friends,
It's hard to believe, but Thursday will mark one month until Election Day. As you might imagine, fulfilling my duties as both a governor and a candidate has kept me pretty busy. Even so, with so little time between now and Election Day, I can't help but take a moment to reminisce on my first campaign.
When I first announced that I was running for governor, most folks thought it was a long shot. After all, my opponent at the time had never lost a statewide race. That didn't discourage me. Once I announced, I hopped in my GMC Sierra and crisscrossed every corner of Louisiana to talk with voters. It was – and remains – the best part about campaigning: talking honestly with folks about issues that matter to them.

Even though it was just four years ago, things looked a lot different for Louisianans back then. There was a lot of anxiety about a sluggish economy and high unemployment rate. On top of that, so many hardworking Louisianans lacked health care coverage. Our budget deficit was out of control, and teachers and schools were put on the back burner.
I was determined to change that – to win and build an administration around putting Louisiana first. And that's exactly what we've done.
It was such a proud moment for me to win, against the odds, back in 2015. But I've been even prouder to put Louisiana on a strong track forward. In our first term, we expanded Medicaid and secured health care coverage for over 450,000 hardworking Louisianans. Our economy is now improving, with growing GDP and unemployment at an 11-year low. On top of that, we got the first raise for our public school teachers in a decade.
I take all of that to heart because I grew up in this great state. I met my wife here, and I started a family here. I've watched my children grow up in the state I was blessed to grow up in. I ran for governor to do some good for the state that I love. I'm running for reelection because I want to keep working for this state, and I believe I'm the best candidate to do that important work.
With just a month until Election Day, it's important to take stock of all that. Thanks to supporters like you, we were able to pull off a surprise victory last time around.
To keep fighting strong in the final weeks of this campaign, we've set a goal to raise $30,000 in the next 48 hours. My opponents are buying up major amounts of airtime for their last and most brutal attack ads, so it's important to build up our resources to ensure we can win on Election Day. Can I count on your support to help me hit this goal?
Please make a contribution of $5 or more right now so we can hit this goal, win reelection and keep moving Louisiana forward.

What's on the line in just a month isn't merely a second term. It's about defending all the progress we've made for Louisiana and fighting to do even more for our great state. That means growing our economy even further, tackling the gender pay gap and raising the minimum wage – just to name a few priorities.
Together, we can achieve all of that. But first, we need to win this thing. Can you help me to build up the resources it will take to win in just a month's time by clicking here to give $5 now? It's your support that will help us win a second term and keep putting Louisiana first.

Thank you so much for your support.
