First New York City, then Austin...

Hi John,

Breaking news: Austin’s City Council just approved a budget measure that will direct $150,000 in practical support to people who need abortion care! Austin will now allocate funding to local organizations like The Lilith Fund to assist those accessing abortion care with the costs of travel, lodging, childcare, and other expenses. Austin joins New York City, which approved funding for abortion care this summer, in demonstrating how local levels of government can use their levers of power to support reproductive freedom.

I can’t stress enough how important this is. At a time when abortion access is under attack nationwide, bold action at the local level can help ensure far more equitable access — even in a state like Texas, where its many medically unnecessary abortion restrictions are disproportionately harming low-income people, people of color, and marginalized communities.

John, you’ve helped us support the bold advocates, activists, and legislators who made this win possible. Join us again by giving them a shout out on Twitter!

Securing city funding for abortion care through our #FundAbortionNYC campaign was an enormous victory for abortion access in New York City. Now, Austin has picked up the baton to protect reproductive freedom. We can’t wait to see – and proudly support – the city that will be next.

In solidarity,

Andrea Miller
