Update from the Taxpayers' Union

Dear Supporter,

No-one can escape the Debt Monster

Last week, readers browsing the NZ Herald election special were confronted with this shocking full-page ad:

Debt Clock ad

We think it's crucial voters understand that both the COVID-19 response and this year's election promises will be paid for in future, with interest.

The politicians need reminding too. They'd like to frolic through the campaign ignoring the enormous cost of their promises, but we won't let them.

The Debt Monster has been a constant presence on the campaign trail. Here he is meeting Jacinda Ardern outside the Newshub election debate:

He was also spotted at Winston Peters' campaign rally in Aotea Square:

He even joined Judith Collins's entourage as she arrived at the 1 News leaders debate:

And 1 News is now including footage of the Debt Monster in their campaign updates!

The Debt Monster campaign is an important corollary to our Tax Relief Now campaign. Tax relief rewards productive work and grows the economy, making government debt easier to manage. But at the same time, politicians need to take the scalpel to wasteful spending and dial back costly election promises.

Thanks for your support,

Louis circle
