"My name is Sumayya Tobah. I am an Egyptian American. To be American is to be an immigrant -- to love and fight for a land that your family hasn't known that long.
My grandfather didn't vote until he was 87 years old. He lived most of his life in Egypt and only saw one open and free election in his lifetime. By voting, I honor him and every person who has fought and died for the privilege we take for granted in this country.
Watching the rise of fascism is a scary thing. Watching it as a visibly Muslim female journalist is a whole new level of terrifying.
Why does voting matter? Voting has literally never been as important as it is now. Your vote is the gatekeeper of the White House."
