John,
Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee is beginning confirmation hearings for Donald Trump’s radical right-wing nominee to fill Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat on the Supreme Court.
Trump and Mitch McConnell are pushing this nominee through a confirmation process in the middle of both a presidential election and a COVID-19 outbreak on Capitol Hill that has infected multiple sitting senators.
They’re trying everything they can to rush their radical nominee on to the Court before Election Day.
A majority of Americans believe this confirmation process should be delayed until after this presidential election is concluded and the winner is sworn in on January 20, 2021. They are right. We are a democracy, and the people’s voice matters.
Democrats in Congress must use every tool at their disposal to block any vote on a nomination to the Supreme Court until after the winner of this presidential election is inaugurated. Add your name if you agree >>
We’re in the middle of a national election, one in which 9 million Americans have already voted. We must see this election through before any seat on the Supreme Court is filled.
McConnell is hell-bent on rushing through this confirmation process in order to secure a decades-long conservative majority on the Court that will vote to overturn Roe v. Wade and Obamacare while consistently stacking the deck for corporate interests.
Senate Democrats may not be able to outright stop this nomination, but if they do everything they can to try — if they delay, delay, delay — then we just might run out the clock and stop this nomination from moving forward.
Because let’s be clear here, if there’s one thing we’ve learned in 2020, no one — absolutely no one — knows what’s going to happen next to change the political landscape. Everything has changed week by week, day by day, sometimes hour by hour, and what looks like a guaranteed win for Trump today, could be SOL tomorrow.
Add your name to our petition if you agree: there should be no vote on any nominee to fill Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s Supreme Court seat until the winner of the ongoing presidential election is sworn in >>
Thank you for raising your voice today. We’ll continue doing everything we can to stop McConnell’s outrageous power grab and win this election.
