Let me set the scene for you.

More than 210,000 Americans have died from this pandemic. Millions are unemployed and struggling financially. More than 7.5 million Americans have been infected, including the President, and rates are once again rising quickly around the nation.

Meanwhile in the Senate, at least three Republican senators — including two on the Judiciary Committee — have tested positive for coronavirus. Others are refusing to get tested.

And what is Mitch McConnell doing? He’s not prioritizing our health, or working to pass urgently needed relief and recovery for this country in the middle of a pandemic.

Instead, he’s forging ahead to jam Trump’s far-right Supreme Court nominee and install her in a lifetime appointment.

This is our reality, John. We’re now 22 days away from a presidential election. Millions of people have already voted. And Senate Republicans are ignoring the will of the American people by forcing Judge Amy Coney Barrett through a rushed confirmation to cement a 6-3 conservative court for decades to come. The hearings to confirm her began today, and McConnell has assured Trump and Republicans that he will ram through the confirmation before November 3rd.

This is McConnell’s legacy. He’s willing to ignore the health and safety of the American people so he can establish a conservative-majority Supreme Court that will throw out healthcare for tens of millions, overturn Roe v. Wade , make it harder to vote, and so much more.

We need to make it clear to Republicans in the Senate: no Supreme Court confirmation before inauguration of the next president. And if they persist in this hypocritical effort to stack the court — after they blockaded President Obama’s nominee for nearly a year — then we’re going to elect a Democratic Senate to unstack it by whatever means are necessary.

It’s imperative that we not only hold the House, but Flip the Senate and remove Trump from office this November if we’re going to save the Supreme Court.
