John,

Did you catch our email the other day?

We sent out a petition to call on governors and state legislators around the country to respect the integrity of our elections -- and we want YOU to sign on to it.

The right to vote, and to have our vote counted, is a fundamental right of every American citizen. Our vote is the highest expression of our political voice, and we demand that it be heard this election -- especially because of the pandemic.

We need every rural vote counted if we want to be represented properly in Congress. So John, will you join the rest of rural America in demanding that our voice be heard too? Read the petition below and sign our petition to send a message to all governors and state legislators >>

Thanks for defending rural America's voice, it wouldn't be possible without patriots like you stepping up to defend our ideals.

Friend --

Trump has called mail ballots fraudulent and said that we should "get rid of (them)."

The election is less than one month away, and with a majority of rural Americans and military service members voting or planning to vote by mail, we must ensure that every vote is counted.

Governors and state legislators must step up to protect the integrity of our elections.

Will you add your name to Rural America's petition to governors and state legislators>> [link removed]

We must make our voices heard!

Here's our petition:

We, the undersigned, are calling on America's governors and state legislators to come to the defense of our nation's election integrity and democratic process. Governors and state legislators must commit to doing everything in their power to count every legally cast mail-in ballot. Many rural voters are relying on mail-in ballots this year, as are our active duty military who disproportionately come from rural parts of America.

We are calling on governors and state legislators to resist pressure to end vote counts early.

We are calling on governors and state legislators to commit to counting every vote and to respect the integrity of votes from rural communities.

And finally, we are calling on governors and state legislators to defend the right to vote -- whether that vote is cast by mail or in person. Ballots must arrive to those who request them. They must be counted once they are cast. Polling places must remain open, safe, and accessible to all Americans.

Nothing less than the integrity of our democracy is at stake.

For over two centuries, the president of the United States has passed down the power of the office peacefully and with deference to the will of the American people, their electors, and the shared and sacred belief we hold in the legitimacy of our government -- a government that is by the people and for the people.

But the president's refusal to commit to honoring this legitimacy and respecting this tradition, as well as comments made about throwing out legally cast ballots in large numbers, have contributed to a growing concern that the legitimacy and traditions of this government may soon falter. Rural citizens and members of our military serving away from home rely on mail-in ballots. Refusing to honor their votes would disenfranchise much of America's heartland.

In a time of COVID, it is critical that governors and legislators protect those who cannot safely leave their homes to vote. We can and will ensure that every vote is counted and that the 2020 election is a model for democracies around the world.

It is time for governors and legislators across America to publicly commit to defending democracy by resisting pressure to end vote counts early, by counting every vote, and by defending all Americans' right to vote.

Signed,
