Today is Indigenous People's Day and we are proud to be a part of a movement that centers their struggles and honors their resilience. They put their lives on the line to defend Mother Earth and our global climate every single day, for the benefit of us all.
This Indigenous People's Day arrives at a time of great crisis. Last week, thousands took action to support over 27,000 Kichwa people in the Ecuadorian Amazon who were affected by the disastrous oil spill in April. Justice is going to be a hard-fought battle, but with you on our side we will keep up the pressure!
Over the last year, our Amazon Defenders Fund has sent hundreds of grants to Indigenous allies across the Amazon – well over a million dollars for direct support for communities, Indigenous women, urgent COVID-19 support, and fire relief!
Please celebrate this day by redoubling your commitment to Indigenous peoples and becoming a monthly donor to Amazon Watch. Every single dollar donated goes directly to our work in the Amazon, enabling our alliances to defend the rainforest and advance Indigenous rights.
We hope you choose to make this work a part of who you are – not just on Indigenous People's Day, but every day!
