Wednesday, September 11 at 12.00 PM ET: IIIC Staff and Family Members at Congressional Hearing

Tomorrow Jonathan Sanchez and our Director of Legal Services, Anthony Marino, will be speaking at the House Hearing on "The Administration's Apparent Revocation of Medical Deferred Action for Critically Ill Children" in DC.

Last week, we took the step of pursuing litigation to challenge the abrupt and unconscionable termination of deferred action for medical cases of immigrant families we represent when the ACLU, Goodwin, and LCR filed a lawsuit on behalf of the Irish International Immigrant Center.

Jonathan Sanchez is a sixteen year old receiving treatment in Boston for cystic fibrosis. The Sanchez family have been courageously speaking out about the way this would harm them and other immigrants in need of this life-saving program. Our team of immigration attorneys have been helping immigrant families apply for deferred action for medical purposes for over 10 years.

We continue to work to restore deferred action for children and families receiving life-saving medical care in the US. Despite the USCIS announcement that they will reopen cases that were pending as of August 7th, their actions indicate that they will be ending this critical program.

The IIIC presently represents 33 children and family members who have applied for deferred medical action, including the Sanchez family. This includes children receiving treatment for conditions such as cancer, cystic fibrosis, cerebral palsy, and muscular dystrophy.

We are grateful for our community partners, including AILA, MIRA, Health Law Advocates, the MA Congressional delegation, Attorney General Maura Healey and the 19 other attorneys general who signed onto a letter about the issue, Interfaith Immigration Coalition, Massachusetts Medical Society, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and other local hospitals. Thank you.

Join us in this work by watching and sharing the House hearing. Take action and stay engaged.
